Michal Marhefka

 

Michal Marhefka is a Senior Associate at BDO Legal with more than 15 years of experience advising domestic and international clients on banking and finance, corporate law, M&A transactions, joint ventures and complex commercial arrangements.

He advises financial services providers, investors, developers and corporate borrowers on the corporate, contractual and regulatory aspects of financing and investment projects. His work includes structuring business relationships, preparing and reviewing commercial and transaction documentation and addressing the corporate arrangements required for the implementation of financing and investment structures.

Michal also advises on M&A transactions and joint ventures, including matters involving changes in ownership, corporate governance and the allocation of rights and obligations between investors and business partners. His broad corporate experience enables him to consider financing arrangements in the context of the client’s wider ownership structure, business operations and strategic objectives.

He has worked with clients operating in the financial services, private equity, real estate and energy sectors, including power producers, electricity and gas suppliers and distribution companies. He also has experience advising public authorities and regulated businesses on commercial, corporate and compliance-related matters.

Before returning to private practice, Michal served as general counsel to a Slovak technology start-up. This in-house experience gives him a practical understanding of internal decision-making, risk management and the need to align legal documentation with the commercial realities of the client’s business.

In addition to being a qualified Slovak lawyer, Michal holds a degree in Business Management from Comenius University in Bratislava. He advises clients in Slovak, English and German.
